On 13 April 2017 Cassini was inside Saturn's shadow and looked back. The Sun is almost exactly behind the planet (phase angle 179.2°), so the rings glow with sunlight scattered forward through them, and the night side is lit only by light from the rings, which brings out storm clouds. The bright band across the upper disk is that ringshine seen through the thin C ring, whose ringlets cross it in silhouette. The dark band over the rings is Saturn's shadow; the thin rim around the limb is sunlight filtering through the upper atmosphere. The faint arc beyond the main rings is the G ring, and Mimas, Janus and Pandora are in the frame.
